Maarten van der Glas is sinds 2006 actief als VJ, onder de naam VJ M. Hij is specialist in het wereldmuziek-genre. Als actief lid van het Rebel Up! Soundclash collectief verzorgt hij wereld muziekfeesten met een rauw randje.
VJ M staat bekend om zijn sterke kleurgebruik. Zijn stijl, die hij zelf “humaan eclectisch” noemt, valt op door een onverwachte, inspirerende mix van beelden. DJ M reist graag en veel, en vraagt daarbij mensen die hij ontmoet te dansen voor zijn camera. De beelden die zo ontstaan mixt hij met zelf gecreëerde digitale animaties en handgemaakte stop motion. Door deze vermenging van traditionele en hedendaagse technieken ontstaat een geheel eigen beeldstijl.
VJ M houd er van om te spelen met verwachtingspatronen en de mensen in de zaal via beeldassociaties op nieuwe gedachten te brengen.
Met zijn eigen gemaakte software collaboreert hij met dansgezelschappen als Maya Sapera Dance Company en Stichting 1 II high. Hij was vaste VJ bij de clubnights van het Utrechtse cultuurcentrum RASA. Ook verwerkt hij met zijn eigen gemaakte software digitale graffiti in zijn live shows. Met digitale graffiti was hij een vaste gast in de Melkweg in Amsterdam.
In 2008 reisde hij door India en filmde een documentaire over de volksmuziek van Rajastan. Hij bewerkte zijn materiaal tot live-cinemaset. Bij de vertoning van de film worden ter plekke live-beelden en geluid toegevoegd, om een gelaagde ervaring te creëren.

Maarten van der Glas has been working as VJ M since 2006. He specializes in the world music genre. As an active member of the Rebel Up! Soundclash collective he organizes world music festivals with a raw edge.
VJ M is known for his strong use of color. His style, which he calls “humane eclectic”, is characterized by an unexpected, inspiring mix of images. DJ M likes to travel, and asks people he meets on his journeys to dance in front of his camera. He mixes the images of collection of his dancing people with self-created digital visuals and handmade stop motion. This blend of traditional and contemporary techniques creates a unique image style.

With his homemade software he collaborates with dance companies as the Sapera Maya Dance Company and foundation DC 1 II high. He was a regular VJ at club nights of the cultural centre RASA in Utrecht. He was a regular performer with his digital graffiti installation in the Melkweg, Amsterdam.
In 2008 he traveled through India and filmed a documentary about the folk music of Rajasthan. He edited his film into live-cinema. While the film is displayed live images and sound are added, to create a layered experience.

His installation Digiffiti lets amateure and proffesional drawers or graffiti artists paint on a digital projected canvas.
