Here is a clip from the vj show in the Ekko 11 februari, with the Housedieren. The are collective of DJ’s and musicians doing live house. The bring a very good vibe because of the live instruments (two violins, a singer, and a percussionist with glockenspiel). The house went wild.

Een dubbele weekend bill dit keer met Rebel Up! vrijdag in Utrecht en zaterdag in Amsterdam. Deze avonden hebben we een speciale gast uit het verre oosten!
DJ Zhao is de Chinese ambassadeur van warme wereldse tonen en vermengt voorouderlijke ritmes met moderne electronica. Via China kwam hij terecht in Amerika, waar hij in 2000 begon met het maken van muziek. Een paar jaar geleden besloot hi naar Berlijn te verhuizen waar hij het Ngoma Soundsystem kollektief oprichtte en ook een reeks Global Bass feesten in Berlijn. Dit bracht hem snel naar diverse festivals en feesten verspreid over heel Europa. Zhao’s stijl is de balans tussen een ethno-musicologist en booty shaker en zo heeft hij het podium al mogen delen met artiesten als Pan Sonic, Shackleton, Rhythm & Sound en Orchestre Poly-Ritmo de Cotonou.

Op Stukafest (Studenten Kamer Festival) treden op 11 februari maar liefst 22 artiesten en bandjes op in studentenkamers rondom de binnenstad van Utrecht.

Een kleine greep uit het gevarieerde programma: Ellen Deckwitz, Nederlands kampioen Poetry Slam, de rocksensatie HIT ME TV, filsooof Bas Haring, cabaratier Martijn Koning, The La La Lies, 0ne Trick Pony.

Na de laatste ronde gaan zowel het publiek als de artiesten los op het legendarische StukaFeest in poppodium de Ekko, waar Electric AlleyCat en HOUSEDIEREN kun sounds op je los zullen laten en DJ collectief Ted Bemmer je trakteert op lekker indiehits en beestachtig rockende dansvloerkrakers.

In navolging van het succesvolle Mystic Grooves en Balkanorama gaat op 6 februari in RASA een nieuwe serie Clubavonden van start, onder de titel Mind Your Step! Arabische triphop, gypsy hotstep, afrobeat, electro cumbia; tijdens deze nieuwe Club RASA met dj’s en vj’s uit binnen- en buitenland kan worden gedanst op de meest uiteenlopende worldgrooves. In deze eerste editie maken dj MPS Pilot, dj Safri en Analog Africa Sound System (het platenlabel bekend van o.a. Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou) hun opwachting. Gezamenlijk staan zij garant voor een avond vol dansbare tracks uit Afrika en de rest van de wereld. Verder wordt RASA omgetoverd tot een bruisende en sfeervolle club met Vj-M, de 78 rpm dj Blue Flamingo, de eet-o-theek, dansperformances, cocktails en animaties. We’re really proud to again play with our friend Hugo Douster from Lyon, who played with us in Utrecht last year. He sure will butter & fire up the dancefloor with his special style of tropical-rootsical bass selections, electronic body music with a tropical virus! His good friend Baxter Beez will play a similar crash course in bassheavy styles from the tropics. Further into the night, locally famed Brussels partycrasher DJ Lowdjo will spin his eclectic selections from everywhere.

And what’s best; the Climate Jockey’s are real jockey’s like dj/vj’s, except that they play with the climate on the dancefloor! The French Piedlabiche art collective from Lyon has made a special climate machine where they can produce & control climate elements such as wind, tropical heat, rain, mist, storm, humidity and whatnot! They will *mix* the climate along to the tunes played by all the artists, how cool/hot is that!

It’s december and almost the end of this lovely crisis year. Well, not for Rebel Up! and 2009 has been an excellent year for us with almost every time a nicely filled OCCII. Time for another special Rebel Up! party! We have teamed up with the good folks of A’dam global bass crew
Bomb Diggy and made tasty global lineup for ya!

Tonight’s special guest is Timeblind, aka Chris Sattinger from the States, who travels on many musical roads such as dancehall, jungle, hip-hop, proto-dubstep,global dub and tropical tunes. He has been part of the New York illbient scene in the early 00′s,trotted around India for a while and is currently living & working in Berlin, the hotspot for experimental music. His set will be a combination of a live PA set with a dj set in heavy global and tropical spheres! Do check out his site or myspace for sounds & mixes.

We will also be joined by mystery man Sonido del Principe, honcho of the excellent Generation Bass blog. Expect some chewed up cumbia, mashed up with some serious bass and latino & caribbean sounds. It will be impossible not to shake

The Rebel Up! & Bomb Diggy soundboy crews will surely battlespin tunes before, inbetween & after. We’ll go any worldly direction possible. Cultureclashing visuals will come by our talented Rebel Up vj’s VJ M & Normal Con Alas. Expect everything!

The charity cause tonight will an organisation in Kenya, named Global Giving. It’s a project that aids a nursery school and rescue center for orphans and vulnerable children in the Kibera slums. The organization is all locally run — and supports about 100 children. Like so many orgs, they have received funding cuts from their major donor and are really in need of growing their funding base. We’ll go around with a collection box during the night and as always we donate the profits from the doormoney.

A new night in the Vechtclub, Utrecht. Tonight will be a very different night though, with the theme *Global Dub* where we want to focus on mashing dub & steppas with the new global sound. Expect a lot of layers that will go deep into your body and belly!

The night will be kicked off early by dubmaster DJ Daddy Don, who will spin some UK Steppas selection that will make the floor vibrate with bass. Your faithfull Rebel Up! DJ & VJ crew willl create new worldly spheres in colourfull sound & visuals with a tropical touch. The Eat This! & DUBieus crews will go for a 3-way battle; back2back2back! DJ’s Bastiaan (Eat This), DJ + (DUBieus) and Chrome (DUBieus) will seriously beatclash, stepping into overgrown urban paths and dark alleyways.

Friday 27th of november VJ M and SebCat will be playing at an Indian fundraiser night, organisised by the good folks of Party 4 Peace. The night is in aid of Belgian organisation Telluris, which we know and support by heart. VJ M will show his Telluris documentary about the Munda tribe and projects. See here a version of it:

VJ M & SebCat will be doing their Rajasthani live cinema set, a live musical-cinematic experience in which images of the big camel fair in Pushkar, Rajasthan will be mixed with sound recordings. In 2007 we made a trip to India and stayed 2 months in Rajasthan where we composed a roadmovie; a story without words, but with vivid Rajasthani music and colourfull images as a narrative for an intimate experience. After this SebCat will play a dance set with his own Rajasthani recordings and some special, bizarre and modern folkpop from allover India. Because there is more to musical India than Bollywood & Raga’s!

The night will start @ 20:00 and goes on till 2:00. Entry is free, though a nice donation is ofcourse much appreciated.
